No, never. ClipForge processes everything in your browser using the Web Audio API and Canvas API. Your video bytes never leave your device. We physically cannot access your files.
What video formats are supported? ▼
Any format your browser supports — MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM, AVI, M4V. Chrome and Firefox support the most formats. Maximum 3GB file size.
How does the AI clip finder work? ▼
It uses the Web Audio API to decode your video's audio buffer and run real peak detection — analyzing amplitude, energy, and variance to find moments of genuine engagement. No data is sent externally.
How do the Whisper auto-captions work? ▼
You provide your own OpenAI API key (available at platform.openai.com). Audio is extracted and sent to Whisper which transcribes speech with word-level timestamps. Costs ~$0.006/min.
What format are the exported clips? ▼
Chrome and Firefox export MP4 (H.264) or WebM (VP9) depending on your system. Both formats are accepted by TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter. Safari users are prompted to use Chrome for best results.
Can I use ClipForge offline? ▼
Yes. Once the page has loaded, ClipForge works completely offline. You can clip videos on a plane, in a studio, or anywhere with no internet. Whisper captions require a connection since they call the OpenAI API.
